ADPM

The Associação de Defesa do Património de Mértola – ADPM, was established in December 1980, having developed since a performance strategy centered on the capacitation of individuals and the promotion of endogenous resources.

ADPM’s mission is fundamentally tied with economical, social and cultural development of the territories where it intervenes, strategically sharing with public and private entities, but equally with the citizens, the responsibility of active participation in the dynamics of its own local development processes.

From the beginning, we have used as a guide the principles and values who come close to the concept of sustainable development, which would only gain global attention in 1987, in the report of the World Comission on Environment and Development – Brundtland Report. Deepening its role in the local development of the concelho of Mértola. ADPM has stretched its thematic and geographical limit of intervened areas. The projects it develops individually or in partnership, in Portugal and other countries, give ADPM a transnational dimension, a fact that enriches its local experience further. In a Think Global – Act Locally logic, we understand multiculturalism and diversity as basis for the development of people. Public Utility Institution and considered by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an ONGD – Non-Governmental Organization for Development, ADPM is an associate/founder of other regional and national associations. It is equally a founding member of Ideia Alentejo and Confederação das Associações de Defesa do Ambiente. It belongs to and cooperates with Associations, Networks and international Platforms, particularly in the aresa of Cooperation and Education for Development, Nature and Biodiversity Preservation, Sustainable Development and Support to Third Countries.
